All concerts are free and open to the public unless otherwise indicated.

Organ Recital Series: Friday, September 16 in Belin Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Paul Butt, Organist/Choirmaster, St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church

History and Hymns: Monday, September 26 in Belin Chapel at 7:30 p.m. This choral concert is an evening of congregational singing of hymns, choral anthems, organ arrangements, piano improvisations, and vocal solos.  Anthems sung by Schola Cantorum will highlight several different periods in America’s history of hymns, with many of them containing patriotic themes.

Music Faculty Recital: Friday, October 7 in Belin Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Professor David Kirkwood will present a recital with Cordelia Lam Kirkwood, pianist, featuring vocal works by Bach (Hoffmann), Britten, Fauré, and Turina.

Organ Recital Series: Student Organ Recital, Saturday, October 8 in Belin Chapel at 7:30 p.m., Michael Rowlands.

Organ Recital Series: Friday, October 14 in Belin Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Jan Jouett, Organist/Music Associate, Clear Lake United Methodist Church

Choir Concert:  Friday, October 28 in Belin Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Schola Cantorum’s fall concert features music by several American composers, Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes, and Schubert’s Intende Voce Oratione, featuring faculty tenor, David Kirkwood.

Organ Recital Series: Friday, November 18 in Belin Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Rhonda Furr, Professor of Organ and Musicology, HBU: Organist at First Presbyterian Church, Houston, Laurie Lester, Adjunct Professor of Voice, HBU, soprano, Mauricio Oliveros, Adjunct Professor, HBU, violin, Zachary Montasser, violin.

Faculty Chamber Music Recital: Friday, November 18 in Belin Chapel at 7:30 p.m., Mauricio Oliveros, Adjunct Professor, and the Terra Nostra Ensemble will perform a recital featuring exciting works by prominent composers from the Latin-American continent and the Iberian peninsula.

Senior Recital: Saturday, November 19 in Belin Chapel at 8:00 p.m., Charles Jager, baritone, Steven Jones, piano.

Senior Recital: Monday, November 28, in Belin Chapel at 7:30pm., Felecia Balkcom, Clarinet, Dr. Guillermo Hernandez, Piano.

Choir Concert Handel’s Messiah: Friday, December 2 in Dunham Theater at 7:30 p.m. Schola Cantorum, accompanied by professional orchestra, with HBU faculty soloists, presents this time-honored classic.

Opera Workshop Showcase: Sunday, December 4 in Belin Chapel at 5:00 p.m.

Instrumental Studio Concert: Tuesday, December 6 in Dunham Theater at 7:30 p.m., the performance will feature instrumental solo’s, duets, brass quintet, and percussion ensemble performances.

Organ Recital Series: Friday, February 3 in Belin Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Paolo Bordignon, Director of Music/Organist, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church

Notable Nights: Tuesday, February 7 in McNair Hall at 7:00 p.m. This Choral event is a ticketed fundraising event for the Department of Music’s choral and vocal activities and tours.  This event offers a dinner with musical entertainment centered on a Valentine’s theme. Register NOW!

Junior Voice Recital: Sunday, February 19, in Belin Chapel at 6:00 p.m., Kevin Punnackal, Tenor, Steven Jones, Piano

Organ Recital Series: Friday, March 3 in Belin Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Giles Brightwell, Organist/Choral Director/Musicologist, St. Thomas Episcopal Church

Band Concert: Tuesday, March 7 in Belin Chapel at 7:30 p.m.

Choir Concert:  Monday, April 3, in Dunham Theater at 7:30 p.m. Schola Cantorum,  joined by Department of Music alumni,  will present “Choose Something Like a Star” featuring music of Randall Thompson, and well-known choral masterpieces by Handel, Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven.

Junior Voice and Senior Piano Recital: Sunday, April 9, in Belin Chapel at 5:00 p.m., Anastasia Markos will present her Junior Voice Recital accompanied by Dr. Alina Klimaszewska on piano, and Jessamine will present her piano performance recital.  The joint recital is free and open to the public.

Junior Voice Recital: Monday, April 17, in Belin Chapel at 7:30 p.m., Carlee Abschneider and Jackeline Ovalle will present their Junior Vocal Performance Recitals, accompanied on the piano by Steven Jones and Alina Klimaszewska respectively. The recital is free and open to the public.

Opera Workshop Performance: Friday, April 21 at 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 23 at 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., in Dunham Theater. Opera Workshop‘s spring production featuring fairy tales from around the world, including Barab’s one act Little Red Riding Hood, scenes from Massanet’s Cendrillon (Cinderella), Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, and many more of your favorites.

Senoir Voice Recital: Monday, April 24, in Berlin Chapel at 7:30 p.m., Erik Sandstrom will sing his BME Performance Recital, accompanied on the piano by Alina Klimaszewska. The performance is free and open to the public.

Band Concert: Tuesday, April 25 in Dunham Theater at 7:30 p.m.

Organ Recital Series: Friday, April 28 in Belin Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Rob Landes, Organist, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.

Houston Civic Symphony Concert: Friday, April 28, in Dunham Theater at 8:00 p.m. HBU choirs will join other area choruses to sing Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Houston Civic Symphony.

Organ Studio Recital: Sunday, April 30, in Berlin Chapel at 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Carlee Abschneider, Bastien Milo, Jessamine Sikes, Anne Marie Jurica, Helen Choo, Love Benson, Michael Rowlands.

Senior Voice Recital:  Sunday, April 30,  in Berlin Chapel at 7:30 p.m., senior recital presented by Laura Fehr, mezzo-soprano and Alina Klimaszewska, piano, presenting works by Schubert, Rossini, Berlioz, Bolcom, and Dvorak.

Senior Voice Recital: Wednesday, May 3, in Berlin Chapel at 7:30 p.m., Sarah Ann Holt will present her Senior Vocal Performance Recital, accompanied on the piano by Alina Klimaszewska.  The recital will feature music by Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Strauss, Argento, and Verdi. The recital is free and open to the public.

Senior Recital: Sunday, May 7, in Berlin Chapel at 3:00 p.m., Andrew Barreras, baritone, accompanied by Steven Jones, will present the Senior Recital. They will present works by Handel, Schumann, Faure, Mozart, Copland, and Loewe.

Senior Recital: Sunday, May 7, in Berlin Chapel at 7:30 p.m., Daniela Petrolito, soprano,  accompanied on piano by Steven Jones, will present the Senior Recital. They will preform Handel, Wolf, Gounod, Rachmaninov, Rorem, and Mozart.

Performance Recital: Monday, May 8, in Berlin Chapel at 7:00 p.m., Fidel Angel Romero will present the Performance Recital, accompanied by Alina Klimaszewska. Free concert open to the public.
