HBU chemistry graduate Luis Macias ’16 and his faculty mentor, Dr. Robert B. Towery, Professor of Chemistry, conducted a basic chemistry research project that may have implications in the fight against cancer. They presented an invited poster “Reactivity of Water Soluble Diruthenium Compounds with DNA” at the Texas State Capitol in Austin on March 28, 2017 as part of a day that highlighted Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) research activities sponsored by the Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas (ICUT). In addition, Dr. Towery contributed to a panel discussion for student participants on careers in STEM.
