HBU students to compete in Challenge Bowl

The American Heritage Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization in Houston, is reviving the concept of a popular 1970s television quiz show with a college challenge bowl this month. Houston Baptist University students will compete against Texas Southern University, Texas State University, and Sam Houston State University in the American History and Western Civilization Challenge Bowl January 27-28 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Greenway Plaza.

The three-person teams will answer questions and vie for prize money totaling $12,000. Members of the winning team will each receive $2,000. This Challenge Bowl is the first of annual competitions planned and is modeled after the early radio and television college quiz shows in the 1950s and ‘70s. The focus of this challenge is “American Liberty and Principles of Western Civilization.”

HBU’s semifinal competition is Friday, January 27, at 7pm, and finals are Saturday, January 28 at 3pm. Judges for the event are Dr. Stephen Balch of Texas Tech University and Dr. Robert Koons of the University of Texas at Austin.

Admission is free. Come and support our HBU students on January 27-28 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Greenway Plaza! Learn more about the competition.
