Vic's the Man!

Former Big 12 defensive coordinator Vic Shealy named HBU’s first head football coach

On April 9, HBU President Dr. Robert B. Sloan Jr. and Director of Athletics Steve Moniaci announced Vic Shealy, who won a national championship while head coach at Azusa Pacific and most recently served as defensive coordinator and secondary coach the past two seasons at Kansas, will be the University’s first head football coach.

“I am especially encouraged by Coach Shealy’s commitment not only to football, but to the academic and spiritual mission of HBU,” Sloan said. “His outstanding coaching career and his commitment to college football will be a great asset in recruiting student-athletes and coaches for our football program, and I believe Coach Shealy will provide great leadership both on and off the playing field as HBU’s first football coach.”

Interest in who will lead the Huskies on the football field has been building for months, both on and off campus.

Earlier this year, the Houston Chronicle and SportsRadio 610 visited with Moniaci to discuss the process and timeline. Recently, Moniaci revealed he had identified "a handful of finalists" from "a very good select pool of candidates."

Moniaci, who is confident Shealy is "the right guy for the job," looks forward to introducing him to the HBU family.
