Jerome (Jerry) Johnston, DMin

Dr. Jerry Johnston oversees all areas of university marketing and communications, and serves as a member of the Executive Council.

Jerry has extensive media experience and has been interviewed on scores of national radio and TV shows. He and Dr. Cristie Jo Johnston have executive produced 17 documentaries, which have been distributed to thousands of churches and numerous TV networks globally. Jerry is passionate for pastors, having himself served as a church planter and built a mega-church in his hometown. He has the spiritual gifts of faith, leadership, evangelism, teaching, and discernment.

Dr. Johnston also serves as the pastor and director of the Christian Thinkers Society (CTS), an innovative apologetics ministry founded by his son, Jeremiah Johnston, PhD. CTS is a resident Institute of Houston Baptist University and specializes in numerous print and digital resources, debates, and apologetic conferences.

Jerry is an evangelist, church-planter, consultant, television host, producer and director of documentaries and TV specials, fundraiser for Christian causes, and a pastoral coach. He has been married to his wife Dr. Cristie Jo Johnston for 35 years; they are the proud parents of three children and five grandchildren.

Since Jerry first began preaching in 1974, he has ministered in over 1,200 churches throughout North America and the world, and captivated youth on over 2,500 public school campuses addressing vital issues. He has authored thirteen books. Dr. Johnston’s revivals and evangelistic crusades have resulted in over 125,000 recorded salvation decisions ( The Johnstons believe God has anointed the leadership of Dr. Robert Sloan, Jr. to raise up HBU as the premiere national university to impact the world for Jesus
