QEP Best Practices
The QEP is a voyage of discovery. As the W-courses are rolled out, and as the QEP Team meets to discuss writing, we learn many things about writing and the teaching of writing. Below, we have listed various useful techniques.
- When reading a student paper, make multiple passes – one for content, one for mechanics, and a third for general impression.
- Don’t try to point out every problem, but do try to address all the dimensions on the rubric – ARG, ORG, MECH, AUD, and DISC (if it is a paper in the major)
- Don’t confuse scoring with grading. The score only represents the assessment of the writing skill. The grade is influenced by many factors.
- When proofreading your paper, print it out.
