Position Summary

As a member of the University’s Innovation and Strategic Marketing team, the Website Developer will portray a positive image of the University to its various publics in a specialty field utilizing current and emerging electronic technology to develop, improve and maintain the features and operation of the University’s website and other content delivery systems.

We are seeking a Developer to work on both back-end and front-end development, including creating WordPress themes and plugins. This position requires a combination of programming skills (namely PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript) and aesthetics (understanding element arrangements on the screen, the color and font choices, and so on). The candidate should have a strong understanding of industry trends and content management systems. Experience with responsive and adaptive design is required. Also, an understanding of the entire web development process, including design, development, and deployment is required.

Job Responsibilities

  • High level of coding and development experience within a WordPress environment including but not limited to: custom post types and taxonomies, custom themes, custom loops and widgets, custom meta and options, customization of admin area and menu.
  • High level understanding and experience with PHP, HTML5, CSS3, SASS, JavaScript, jQuery, MySQL, AJAX
  • Strong technical writing skills with experience in writing software documentation.
  • Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications.
  • Experience developing responsive WordPress themes
  • Comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome inspector, etc.
  • Ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers.
  • Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working web pages.
  • Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML).
  • Good understanding of cross-platform and cross-browser issues.
  • Good organizational skills required
  • Knowledge of WordPress Multisite beneficial but not required.
  • Experience with Banner or Oracle database is beneficial.
  • Experience with SharePoint design and development and iModules design would be beneficial but not required.
  • Experience creating multilingual WordPress websites preferred but not required.


  • Associate’s degree in web development or related field preferred; two or more years experience in web development required.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Bitbucket or Github.
  • High level understanding and experience with PHP, HTML5, CSS3, SASS, JavaScript, jQuery, MySQL, AJAX.
  • Initiates and has the ability to work independently.
  • Strong technical writing skills with experience in writing software documentation.
  • Organized, energetic, flexible, detail-oriented.

Additional Information

  • Normal office conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work. This may involve some lifting, carrying, moving, pushing and/or pulling of objects/materials of light weight (15‐20 pounds).
