Houston Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts seeks candidates for a faculty position within the Department of Cinema, Media Arts, and Writing to begin January 2017. We are specifically interested in candidates who have credentials and experience in Creative Writing, with a focus in fiction, journalism, screenwriting, or media criticism. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Teach undergraduate courses in appropriate field(s) within the Department of Cinema, Media Arts, and Writing. Oversee design, development, and delivery of new courses within candidate’s area(s) of expertise. Participate in scholarly and creative activities related to field(s) of instruction. Perform service activities consistent with HBU’s teaching mission. Perform other duties as assigned.
Applicants should have a terminal degree in a relevant media field, an MFA in Creative Writing, or substantial professional experience. Candidate should be able to teach courses in creative writing, such as fiction, non-fiction, journalism, essay writing, screenwriting, or media criticism. Candidates may also be considered for foundational departmental courses such as Art of Storytelling and Media Studies courses.
Successful candidates should also be able to clearly express how their Christian faith enriches, guides, and undergirds their understanding of creative art and storytelling, as well as be able to articulate a vision for the role of his or her discipline at HBU that is supportive of the Ten Pillars vision statement; the Ten Pillars vision statement may be found at https://www.hbu.edu/about-hbu/the-ten-pillars/.
