The Department of Mathematics is currently seeking a faculty member who is passionate about teaching and student learning and mentoring in a Christian work environment. Houston Baptist University seeks one full-time faculty member in mathematics. Candidates must be able to teach a variety of courses at the undergraduate level while assisting in departmental activities including, but not limited to, curriculum development, student advising and mentoring, program assessment, and committee work. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and the ability to direct undergraduate research projects is required. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications. Candidates should be available to begin work in the fall of 2014. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
Candidates will have a doctorate in Mathematics and will be willing to teach courses in both the breadth and depth of Mathematics. The faculty member is also willing to guide undergraduates in research endeavors and be involved in the larger scientific and research community. The faculty member will be responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating classroom experiences for students in the designated mathematical content area as per University policy. The faculty member will also be expected to be involved in student mentoring and advising and will maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community. The candidate will provide documentation of an excellent teaching record and evidence of scholarly interests and achievements.
Candidates should have completed a Ph.D. in mathematics, be active professionally, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, have strong skills in the use of instructional technology, and be committed to quality teaching at a Christian liberal arts university.
