New VA Student Checklist

Checklist for Veterans

  1. Be admitted to Houston Baptist University as a degree-seeking student.
  2. Complete the application for VA Benefits (22-1990).
    **Read the application carefully since some decisions that you make on the application are now irrevocable.
    ** Form must be turned into the Veterans Administration; may also be completed on line. http://www.gibill.gov/)
  3. Submit application along with DD214, Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE),
  4. Get advised through your college and register for classes.
  5. Complete the appropriate Enrollment Certification Request Form and submit to HBU Registrar's Office via email, fax, and mail or in person.
  6. Certify monthly enrollment status via W.A.V.E. on the last day of every month while you are in school.
  7. Notify HBU of any changes that you make to your schedule immediately via email to mboggs@hbu.edu

Checklist for Dependents

  1. Be admitted to Houston Baptist University as a degree-seeking student.
  2. Complete the application for VA Benefits 22-5490 (Form must be turned into the Veterans Administration; may also be completed on line. http://www.gibill.gov/)
  3. Get advised through your college and register for classes.
  4. Complete the appropriate Enrollment Certification Request Form and submit to HBU Registrar's Office via email, fax or in person.
  5. Notify HBU of any changes that you make to your schedule immediately via email to mboggs@hbu.edu

You must notify the HBU Veterans Representive of any changes that you make to your schedule or major within 30 days. Failure to do so will result in overpayment and if you are overpaid the University is required to return any funds received from the VA which will result in the student owing a balance to the University.
