Ellen Clardy, PhD
Assistant Professor of Economics
BA in Economics, Trinity University
MA in Economics, Rice University
PhD in Economics, Rice University
Survey of Economics (MS-HRM Program)
In addition to teaching, Dr. Clardy is pursuing research projects. She is studying the pedagogy of economics, which has the benefit of also being an aid to teaching. She is also researching the school of Austrian economics in an effort to bring to HBU students an alternative school of thought in the field.
After completing graduate school, Dr. Clardy worked for over 7 years as a consultant for different companies, including Econ On in Los Angeles and Skipping Stone in Houston. Her focus was on the oil and gas industry—in particular the wholesale trading of natural gas and power.
Dr. Clardy’s community activities include various volunteer activities at her church, Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, including teaching Sunday School, organizing the Mom’s group, and participating in the UMW Women of Spirit circle group.
Dr. Clardy is married and has one daughter in the first grade, which means for now Girl Scouts and soccer are a big part of life away from HBU. She also tries to fit in time for reading, yoga, and cooking.
