Houston Baptist University Announces Naming of Sadie & Doug Hodo Residence College

Houston Baptist University President Robert B. Sloan, Jr. is pleased to announce the naming of the Sadie and Doug Hodo Residence College, currently known as the Lake House. The naming will recognize Dr. Doug Hodo, president emeritus, and Sadie Hodo, former first lady. Dr. Hodo served as the second president of the University from 1987 to 2006.

HBU named the 6th most diverse US College

Houston Baptist University boasts a larger student body than any of the other religiously affiliated schools in our top 10 by a considerable margin. Four racial groups ― Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, and White ― each comprise double-digit percentages of Houston Baptist University’s student body. Women also outnumber male students by a margin of nearly 2:1. The university offers several merit- and needs-based scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students.

HBU Sets Record for Entering Freshman and Total Enrollment

HBU posted a record freshman enrollment this fall, with 568 students attending classes. Additionally, the total combined graduate and undergraduate enrollment of 2,910 is the highest in University history.
HBU’s Association of Student Educators Wins Prestigious State Award

The Association of Student Educators (ASE), HBU’s professional organization for future educators, has been honored by the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE) as the outstanding university chapter in the state of Texas for the year 2012-2013. This prestigious award recognizes excellence in leadership, programming, participation and service. An extensive written application, an analysis of a scrapbook documenting activities and an interview of Amy Wethington, the ASE president, resulted in ASE receiving this honor.
Patrick Moore Named HBU Director of Bands

Patrick Moore has been added to the HBU music faculty as Director of Bands. His responsibilities will include developing a HBU band and forming a marching band which will perform at all home football games and all home basketball games. He is an active percussion performer, educator, arranger, adjudicator and clinician.
Earthworm Jim creator Doug TenNapel joins HBU faculty

Houston, TX – Noted animator, game designer, and graphic novelist Doug TenNapel is the newest addition to Houston Baptist University's Cinema & New Media Arts program. For nearly twenty years, TenNapel has been a creative force in popular media, beginning with his video game concept Earthworm Jim, which spawned an animated TV series and toy line in the early 1990s.
