Washington and its workings are a critical component of every company's competitive environment. The federal government regulates goods and services, taxes both companies and consumers, establishes procedural ground rules for business, sets monetary policy, and negotiates terms of international trade and exchange. Policy shifts can severely impact a company's bottom line. Every business executive will be significantly affected by the public policy of the federal government.

MGMT 6396, The Washington Experience, emphasizes governmental processes and the range of considerations which bear upon the decisions of policy makers. To understand more fully how they, as managers, can build the critical public policy dimension into daily operations and corporate strategy, students examine the workings of the legislative, regulatory, judicial and executive functions of the federal government.

The D.C. component of MGMT 6396 is delivered by The Washington Campus, a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization committed to educating business management on the public policy process. The Washington Campus is a consortium of the business schools of sixteen U.S. universities. Located in Washington, D.C., it draws upon the unique resources of the nation's capital to educate graduate business students on the decision making processes of our government.

This is a spring course and requires early registration in the fall as seating in this class is limited. The class meets several times prior to Washington departure and again after the group returns. There are no additional travel surcharges for this course. The program covers airfare and hotel costs. Students pay tuition only.

Students may select either the Washington Experience or the International Management course without a travel surcharge. Students may elect both courses and the University will invoice for additional costs.

"The Washington Experience has strongly changed my perceptions of the legislative and regulatory process in which any corporation must operate, and the influence that the political decision-making process has on my personal life."
