On any give day, at any given hour, an HBU alum is making a difference in their world and their community.

Outstanding alumni are recognized through the Distinguished Alumnus Award, presented to alumni who have made a distinctive contribution in their profession, and the Meritorious Service Alumnus Award, presented to alumni who have made significant, sustained contributions of time, energy and creativity toward the advancement of the University.

Alumni Awards 2008-2009

Francis Bui, Meritorious Service Alumnus Award
Francis received a bachelor of science degree from HBU in 2000. He has served on the HBU Alumni Board of Directors since 2002,  and since then he has taken on numerous roles which include chairing Homecoming, the Graduation Cookout and the Husky Hustle 5K Fun Run. His enthusiasm and love for HBU are evident in his willingness to serve whenever and wherever he is able. But the best thing about Francis is not his willingness to serve alone, but his ability to rally 10 to 15 of his closest HBU alumni friends to serve with him at each event.
Francis, thank you so much for all that you have done for HBU and the Alumni Association.

Mike Reinfeldt, Distinguished Alumnus Award
This award is presented to alumni who have made a distinctive contribution in their profession. They must have consistently exemplified the standards upon which the University is founded. This year’s recipient is Mike Reinfeldt, Executive Vice President and General Manager for the Tennessee Titans national football league team.

Mike earned his master of business administration degree from HBU in 1984. He is in his 28th season in the NFL, second as Titans Executive Vice President/General Manager and 10th with the Oilers/Titans franchise. His first tenure with the team was from 1976-83 as an All-Pro safety. He re-joined the franchise in 2007, after spending seven years with the Seattle Seahawks.

Clay Porter, Hallmark Award
Each year, the Alumni Board of Directors, on behalf of the HBU Alumni Association, selects one member of the faculty or staff to receive the Hallmark Award. This individual is someone who is particularly supportive of the Alumni of Houston Baptist University. This support may be shown in a number of ways … by attending alumni events, maintaining communication with alumni, showing an interest in and being an advocate for alumni in countless ways and promoting the Alumni Association with our students. The person selected is made an honorary alumnus of Houston Baptist University. A brick with his or her name is also placed in the Holcombe Mall’s Heritage Walkway, and the Hallmark Award recipient also receives the traditional walnut clock associated with the award.

This year’s recipient is always behind the scenes at ALL alumni events and goes above and beyond the call of duty to make sure these events run smoothly … even in areas that are not under his purview of responsibility. But what makes this year’s recipient so important to the Alumni Association is the way he promotes the Association with our students and our recent graduates. From volunteering with the Husky Hustle 5K Fun Run and engaging students to participate in the run, to promoting athletic and student life activities and personally bringing recent graduates to the Alumni Director in order to engage them as alumni volunteers, this year’s recipient has a heart for encouraging our students to enjoy the full collegiate experience – academics, athletics, student and spiritual life -- thus binding them closer to their alma mater as alumni.  It is with great pleasure that the HBU Alumni Board of Directors presents the 2008 Hallmark Award to Clay Porter, Director of  Instructional Television.
