Campaign Rules



Approved Materials
All campaign materials must be approved by, and a copy submitted to Student Life, for approval.  This includes all materials: information that is posted, worn, distributed, distributed electronically, or displayed in any public venue.

Posting Locations
Posting may only be done in University designated and approved areas.  Posting of materials may not appear on doors or windows of HBU academic buildings, Cultural Arts Center, library, or administration buildings.  Any sign found to be unsafe or in an approved area(s) as determined by the Student Government Advisor, Student Life or Student Affairs will be removed.

Do no stake items into ground without Student Life permission first.  Any damaged caused will be paid for by the candidate or candidate’s representative(s) who caused the damage.  Flyers for candidates are not allowed to be placed on vehicles.  Candidates may distribute materials after Convocation only.  No materials may be distributed as the HBU community enters Convocation.  Sidewalks may be marked sidewalk chalk only.  No other chalk-like product is permitted.

Clean and Honest
Material should not be used to slander or libel other candidates.  Only factual information should be stated.  We desire HBU students to run a clean and honest campaign.  As SGA candidates, you represent the Student Body and your behavior and conduct symbolize the character of Houston Baptist University.  All HBU Student Handbook rules apply during SGA elections.  All University rules must be followed.

Guidelines
All materials and supplies used in the campaign must be at the expense of the candidates.  No University funding may be used.  This includes and is not limited to copies, office supplies, all other forms of expense from HBU offices or departments on campus.

ALL campaign material must be removed no later than two working days after the end of the election [48 hours after the posted end of voting].

All candidates are responsible for their actions in the campaign, including the actions of their supporters/campaign representative(s).

Each candidate is responsible for keeping noise at adequate levels.  Do not disrupt classrooms with loud music or noise.

Ballots
The candidate’s name will be listed by position in alphabetical order on the ballot.  Last names will be used for the placement of names on the ballot.

Ballots will be counted by SGA advisor, and designated HBU staff/administration.
The candidate with the highest number of votes will be declared the winner.  There are no run-off elections.

Grievances
All complaints related to either a candidate, candidate’s campaign, or the election process must be submitted in writing to Student Life within 24 hours of the alleged violation.  Adobe pdf document Download Grievance Form.
