Students praying The Assisting Communities Through Students (ACTS) office functions to promote service as an experiential learning tool and to meet needs in the Houston community. The nature of service-learning--reflection, discussion, interaction with other cultures, etc.--produces a teachable arena where a student's ideology and knowledge of scripture comes face to face with the world.  In that place the compassion of Jesus can be learned; the Kingdom of God can be recognized; and a lifestyle of mission and servant hood can be developed.

Each year, ACTS sponsors a variety of projects including Missions Emphasis Convocation, Reach Out Convocation, Global Awareness and Hunger banquets, Mission-Learning Opportunities, Fair Trade Gift Markets and many more activities.

Our staff includes Jason Shaffer, ACTS Coordinator, and the Service Leadership Council. The Service Leadership Council (SLC) is a team of student leaders united to encourage and equip HBU students to meet real needs in the Houston Community by being the hands and feet of Christ.  Students interested in leading a service team or serving as the ACTS intern are encouraged to apply.  The application process will begin in the middle of January.

The ACTS office connects students to service in the following ways:

Weekly Volunteer Service
     Service Learning Internships
           Missions Learning Opportunities

The ACTS office is located on the second floor above the University Bookstore in Students Life. Drop by to visit us!!
