Houston Baptist University was founded in 1960 and is a coeducational Texas Baptist institution. This University was founded in the conviction that colleges need not be established in the hinterlands away from the life of the city. The men and women who worked to build Houston Baptist College were energized by the idea of building a Christian university right in the middle of the metropolis. They knew how Houston was growing, and they put the school right in the path of that growth. The result is a young university with the wonderful combination of a diverse student body and a strong sense of mission for the community, the world and Christ.
