What sets HBU apart?

There are more than 15,000 HBU graduates currently enjoying successful careers, living fulfilling lives, and serving as leaders within communities across the nation and around the world. Why did they choose HBU? We can think of many reasons, but here are some of the most important ones.

Academics. While offering such benefits as our diverse selection of undergraduate and graduate programs; our core liberal arts curriculum; our emphasis on applied, hands-on learning; and our preference for small, personalized, discussion-based classes, the HBU academic experience is about more than merely specializing in specific fields or preparing for rewarding careers. It is about learning to effect positive change both in one’s self and in the world. Learners at HBU enjoy challenging and debating passionately-held viewpoints, grappling with complex issues and big ideas, and constantly developing their communication skills in order to inspire people into action.

Personal Attention. At HBU, 78 percent of all classes have fewer than 20 students. In addition, all classes are taught by faculty, ensuring that close collaboration between faculty and students is the norm rather than the exception.

Community. At HBU, you will join a supportive, diverse, faith-based community of learners who, like you, have the potential to make a difference in both their immediate communities and society at large. The relationships you build will not only allow you to develop and apply your leadership and decision-making skills in many different ways, but will also inspire you to face tomorrow with a clearer sense of yourself and what you hope to achieve. Best of all, these bonds—and memories created from shared participation in our student clubs, intramural and club sports programs, community and residence-life events, and more—will extend far beyond the campus and far longer than your years at HBU.

Facilities. As a small college community, HBU students, faculty, staff, and alumni enjoy access to an wide range of facilities and resources within a beautiful 100-acre campus. We offer a comprehensive library, comfortable and conveniently located residence halls and on-campus apartments; and sports, fitness and recreation facilities.

Location. Our location in southwest Houston, the nation’s fourth largest city, plays a critical role in the success of our students. At HBU, you will live and learn on a campus only minutes away from the professional connections offered by the numerous national and international organizations headquartered here and enjoy the professional, social, and spiritual lifestyle opportunities that only a major city can provide.
