National Oilwell Varco CEO to deliver Brown Lecture10/22/2009 The Houston Baptist University School of Business will hold its 2009 Brown Distinguished Lecture on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 6 p.m. in the Belin Chapel on the HBU campus. The lecture, one of several events planned to mark HBU's "Homecoming 2009: Embrace Tradition," is free of charge and open to the public. Merrill A. "Pete" Miller Jr., chairman and CEO of National Oilwell Varco, will deliver a presentation titled "Challenges – Mergers and Acquisitions in the World Marketplace." Miller has served in various senior executive positions with National Oilwell since February 1996. He assumed his current position as director of the company in May 2001. The Brown Foundation Inc. established the Herman Brown Endowed Chair of Business and Economics at HBU in 1972. Since that time, the Herman Brown Endowed Chair, and associated activities including the annual Brown Distinguished Lecture, has enriched the academic life of the University and the resources of the Houston business community.
