There are a variety of ways in which students may receive financial aid from Houston Baptist University. In order to receive an offer of aid through the School of Music, students must:

  • audition for the faculty of the School of Music
  • complete the application forms for the University
  • be accepted for admission to the University

All recommended grants are renewable for four or five years, offering a considerable amount of aid to the student and their family for that period of time. In order to renew grants in successive years, students must:

  • maintain a minimum grade point average in music of 3.0
  • maintain an overall average of 2.0
  • show progress in their applied major performance area
  • fulfill the requirements for ensemble participation and performance
  • fulfill the recital and forum attendance requirement each quarter

School of Music Grants are recommended for students by the faculty, based upon the individual student’s talent, academic performance, and need. The amount of the award recommended for each renewal year may be increased or decreased according to the student’s performance and academic achievement. Types of Grants are:

  • School of Music Grants (for music majors only)
  • Band or Choral Grants (for non-music majors who wish to participate in music ensembles)

There are numerous other opportunities for financial aid from the University. Please contact the HBU Financial Aid Office to receive information and applications for other types of aid.
