Program Description
Houston Baptist University's Master of Arts in Psychology (MAP) prepares students for careers in counseling-related fields by offering advanced preparation in counseling, testing, and research methods. Graduates of the program frequently go on to secure Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) status and work in private practice, community counseling centers, agencies, correctional facilities, and psychiatric hospitals. MAP graduates may continue their education at the doctoral level.
Advantages and Opportunities
The Hinton Center computer classrooms, equipped with the most up-to-date equipment, are used for graduate-level courses in statistics and research. Graduate students also benefit from the opportunity to videotape and view themselves in counseling situations. The videotapes provide a vehicle for assessing and improving counseling skills.
All graduate psychology courses are taught by professors with terminal degrees in their specialty.
Graduate students in the MAP program have presented their research studies at professional conferences and participated in local and state professional societies.
After Graduation
Many graduates of the MAP program take positions in counseling-related areas.
