"Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for
with ardor and attended to with diligence.

Abigail Adams (1744 - 1818)

MLA classes are offered on a 15 week semester system.  Classes break for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring break.  The MLA program normally offers four classes per semester – usually a literature class, a history class, a popular culture class, and a fine arts class – although the courses vary each semester.  Each class maintains the unique interdisciplinary approach of the MLA program so that you get a well-rounded education on each subject!

MLA Course List

Your classes meet once a week from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the evening or on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Each course has a total of fifteen class sessions.  Your classes will often feature excursions to local museums, theaters, music performances, and other cultural venues.  Recently we have made several visits to local art galleries and the Museum of Fine Arts.

Don't worry about getting overlooked in class.  On average, your MLA classes will have about 12 students in each class.  Small class sizes allow for a great deal of participation and interaction with your professor and classmates!

Most all of your MLA classes are taught by our University faculty with doctorates.   Each MLA course has been specially designed for you and your classmates by MLA faculty who are eager to share their love of the subject with you.  On occasion, we also invite local experts to teach if they have the appropriate credentials and can make a unique and well-designed contribution to our program.

In each class you can expect some combination of lecture, discussion, film, art or music presentation, and more discussion.  Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the MLA program,  you never have to worry about a course becoming stale or boring.   There is always something to capture your imagination!
