A culture of collaboration

A deep-rooted culture of faculty-student interaction, collaboration, and mentoring is a hallmark of an HBU education. It’s easy to see our faculty excel at teaching: all you have to do is sit in on a class when you visit our campus. You’ll observe the skill with which they engage students in dynamic debate and encourage them to stretch their imagination in order to facilitate creative and innovative thinking. But less obvious is the fact that they think of you as their student - often, a colleague - not just for the semester or for the duration of your HBU experience, but for life.

So don’t be surprised when they call you by name at the end of your first class or e-mail you a semester later to share internship or graduate school opportunities. Because while our faculty include respected academicians, researchers, well-recognized educators, and active industry consultants in many different fields, they are all equally passionate about challenging their students to think differently and empowering them to write successful life stories of their own.
