Prof. christopher hammons and student The College of Arts and Humanities offers a wide range of courses that makes up the majority of the liberal arts offerings of the university. Additionally, the College offers a number of majors in a variety of academic disciplines. The Schools of Art, Music and Theology, as well as the Departments of Behavioral Sciences, Communication and Rhetorical Studies, History & Government, and Languages, make up the areas of study in the College. With these academic disciplines and more than 40 full-time faculty members the College of Arts and Humanities is the largest and most diverse college at Houston Baptist University.

The faculty is comprised of outstanding and renowned teachers, scholars, composers, artists, performers, researchers, and authors with national and international acclaim. A great benefit to each student is the close interaction enjoyed with the highly accomplished and committed faculty in the classroom, the studio, and in collaborative research and creative endeavors. With over 80% holding terminal degrees in their fields, the faculty of the College of Arts and Humanities has earned degrees from prestigious institutions around the world. Students recognize and appreciate the excellent scholarship and creative artistry as well as the personal commitment to teaching and students demonstrated by the faculty within the College.

Faculty in the College lead students to develop skills to think critically, to integrate learning across disciplinary lines, and to develop reflective judgment necessary to live and be successful in the multifaceted and quickly changing world of the twenty-first century. Students at Houston Baptist University gain valuable insights into themselves and diverse populations of the world from the perspective of Christian knowledge, commitment, and understanding.

HBU's new University Academic Center provides much needed instructional space, offices, and other resources for the School of Art, the Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies, and the new Honors College.
