Dr. Mohan Kuruvilla

Kuruvilla holds an MBA in Finance and a PhD in Accountancy from the University of Houston. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Accountant (ACA).

Dr. Kuruvilla's teaching focus is financial accounting and auditing. His focus areas include corporate governance and international accounting.

Courses taught include Auditing, Advanced Auditing, Intermediate Accounting, Seminar in International Business, Survey of Accounting for Graduate Students, and International Accounting.

Dr. Kuruvilla's publications and professional presentations have included work on a comparative study of international accounting and US GAAP, revenue recognition in the technology industry and Sarbanes-Oxley related issues.

Dr. Kuruvilla was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) for a two-year term beginning in June 2008. He has been on the Editorial Board of the TSCPA since 2004 and was the chair of the Editorial Board for 2008-09. He chaired the annual corporate conference of Asia Society in 2006. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Taurus Quest, a company specializing in accounting services. He has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Houston Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Indo-American Charity Foundation, both for 2009.   He has been interviewed several times by local and international media on various business topics.

Dr. Kuruvilla was a Director of KPMG in India from March 2001 to September 2003.

Dr. Ernest Liang
Faculty Liaison, Center for Christianity in Business

Dr. Liang holds an MBA in Finance and a PhD in Geography (Applied Economics) from the University of Chicago.

Dr. Liang's teaching focus is finance and economics. His research interests include financial markets and institutions, corporate finance, development economics, and economic geography.

Dr. Liang teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses, including Investment, Money and Banking, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Transformational Leadership, Leadership Development, and Applied Practical Learning Experience (APLE).

Dr. Liang’s publications and professional presentations have included work on the financial market reforms in China and the role of railways in the economic development of pre-WWII China.

While at HBU, Dr. Liang has served on the Professional Growth Committee, Search Committee for the Dean of the College of Business and Economics, and the Committee on Christianity and the Arts.

Prior to his joining HBU, Dr. Liang spent 27 years in industry, where he has served major corporations in roles ranging from chief economist to Chief Financial and Operating Officer. Dr. Liang ran a successful consulting practice immediately prior to his arrival at HBU.

Brad Hays

Brad Hays is a fourth-generation Texan with roots back to the times of Stephen F. Austin Land Grants. Hays is married and has an active family life with 11 grandchildren. His local involvement includes Houston’s Second Baptist Church where Brad works in various ministries and is a Bible study leader. He also participates in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Texas as a member of the Advisory Board of Directors

Hays founded Bible in the Boardroom; an emerging organization dedicated to "Applying God's Transforming Word to the Workplace." Brad is the CEO of Headwaters Leadership Institute and is the CONVENE Chairperson for Houston. Brad is also maintains a Christian Executive Coaching practice and is partner in The Leaven Partnership, LLC.

Hays’ business foundation was built over 30+ years in varied professional experience areas including sales, marketing and operations in both large and small enterprises. He led two startup technology companies as CEO in the automotive aftermarket segment. Hays’ automotive experience was gained during 28 years leading large operating divisions for Honeywell International (formerly AlliedSignal) and Pennzoil.
