Alpha Chi Omega was founded October 15, 1885, at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. Professor James Hamilton Howe, Dean of the Music School, invited seven young women from the school to attend a meeting for the purpose of forming a society. The first appearance of the seven founders - Anna Allen, Olive Burnett, Bertha Deniston, Amy DuBois, Nellie Gamble, Bessie Grooms and Estelle Leonard were in Meharry Hall, wearing scarlet and olive green ribbon streamers attached to their dresses.

Alpha Chi Omega has been an established Panhellenic Sorority nationally, since 1885. The National mission statement for Alpha Chi Omega is: "To enrich the lives of both its collegiate and alumnae members through lifetime opportunities for friendship, leadership, learning and service."
Alpha Chi Omega promotes sisterhood through scholastic achievement, philanthropic events, and active involvement with campus life. Alpha Chi Omega provides leadership positions within the chapter in a variety of interests including fundraising chair, social chair and intramural chair or as a member of the chapter's executive board.
