Welcome!
Our mission is to provide a supportive and encouraging environment for HBU students.  We offer each student personal and professional advisement and referrals to enhance their educational experience and promote student success.

We assist students who are struggling academically, who want to explore different options in choosing a major, who are considering changing their major, or are wondering what careers relate to their major.

Please continue to visit our site as we update SAC's new programs and services!

"Without consultation, plans are frustrated,
but with many counselors they succeed.”

Proverbs 15:22

The Success and Advising Center assists students with the following:

  • Developing educational plans
  • Becoming aware of and utilizing college resources
  • Learning college success strategies
  • Exploring and clarifying career and life goals
  • Assessing strengths, interests, and skills
  • Overcoming academic difficulty and creating an educational plan for success
  • Understanding college policies and procedures related to academic goals
  • Developing a plan for academic success for a selected group of first-year students

Advising
SAC provides general advising and career exploration counseling for students who are undecided about their major selection, assists students who are thinking about changing their major or gives guidance to those students who find themselves lost in the advising process.

Transitions – Conditional/Provisional Admissions Program
The SAC Transitions Program exists to serve students by helping them develop their academic potential. It is particularly successful in assisting students who possess the ability and motivation to succeed in college, yet have college entrance examination scores or grade point averages that are lower than those required for regular admission to HBU.   Each component of the program is designed to help students develop the skills needed to adjust to and succeed in college.

Career Exploration
SAC provides counseling to help students identify their strengths and to assist them in pursuing their career and academic goals.  According to national data, three out of four students are unsure of their major.  Many students who enter college change their major at least once from when they first entered college. We offer a variety of resources for career exploration including the Strong Interest Inventory, Myers Briggs Personality Type, StrengthsQuest and Career Cruising.
