Houston Civic Symphony

All string students as well as wind/brass/percussion students (selected by audition) perform in the Houston Civic Symphony (www.civicsymphony.org). Conducted by Dr. Brian Runnels, the orchestra has a long history of performing challenging and enjoyable repertoire in five concerts during the year. In 2008-2009 the orchestra will perform the following works:

  • WEBBER- "The Music of the Night" from The Phantom of the Opera
  • MUSSORGSKY - Night on Bald Mountain
  • RACHMANINOV - Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini
  • RODGERS - "Some Enchanted Evening" from South Pacific
  • MOZART - Eine Kleine Nachtmusik "Allegro"
  • STRAUSS - Blue Danube
  • ROSSINI - William Tell Overture
  • SMYTH – Overture to The Wreckers
  • HUMMEL - Trumpet Concerto in E major with Robert Walp, trumpet, Houston Symphony Orchestra
  • BORODIN - Symphony no. 2 in B minor
  • ARRIAGA – Ouverture pastorale
  • FALLA – Nights in the Gardens of Spain with Melissa Marse, pianist
  • CHABRIER – España
  • RIMSKY-KORSAKOV – Capriccio Espagñol
  • BEETHOVEN- Symphony no. 9 in D minor "Choral" with combined choirs from Houston Baptist University
