History at HBU Classics at HBU
What can you do with a degree in history?
Anything you want!

All human progress takes place over time and so history, the art of remembering humanity’s past, may be called the foundation of all knowledge. In exploring the vivid personalities and dramatic events that have shaped the human story, you grow in cultural literacy and political insight. This perspective helps you to develop a vision for the future.

The Houston Baptist University Department of History and Classics offers a unique opportunity for you to learn history with the insights provided by the Christian faith.

Our faculty enjoy getting to know their students, both in and out of the classroom. They possess intellectual breadth and versatility and a commitment to Christian orthodoxy. They are experts in their fields, and they work together with good will, good humor, and intellectual adventurousness.

History is one of the most popular majors for university students. It is full of real-world applications. As a student of history, you will be prepared for anything life can throw at you and to excel in your career.

Past HBU majors have successfully launched into any one of a myriad of careers in law, education, government, business, Christian ministries, human services, communications, library science, museums, and archival work. Employed in countless capacities throughout Texas, the nation, and the world, our alumni serve as testimonies to the amazing versatility and value of a HBU history degree!

You'll also have the opportunity to join the campus History Club and to qualify for the Alpha-Lambda-Zeta chapter of Phi Alpha Theta honor society.
