Teaching Focus
Dr. Bordelon's teaching interests are in the field of political science generally, with special interest in the subcategory of political theory. Dr. Bordelon's interests are in fact multidisciplinary and he has taught a wide variety of interdisciplinary courses at Houston Baptist University.
Publications
Dr. Bordelon has written about twenty articles and reviews on subjects and books related to contemporary politics. He has also authored a book on the rise and fall of the Venetian Republic entitled La Serenissima: The Republic of Venice from its Founding to its Fall.
He is currently working on a book about democracy in America, tentatively entitled Equality and Liberty in America.
Awards and Honors
Dr. Bordelon has twice been the College of Humanities nominee for the Opal Goolsby Award for Outstanding Teaching.
Additional Information
In his eighteen years of service at Houston Baptist University Dr. Bordelon has served on numerous committees. He is currently serving on the Fringe Benefits Committee and a committee on student advising, and is also on the Faculty Assembly Executive Committee.
As an undergraduate, Dr. Bordelon was the recipient of a Firestone Scholarship which paid the full expenses of books, room, board and tuition for his entire four years of undergraduate education at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas.
Dr. Bordelon was the recipient of a full-tuition grant for his entire enrollment as a graduate student at the University of Dallas. Dr. Bordelon also received a full-expenses grant of a Richard Weaver fellowship while he was a graduate student at the University of Dallas.
In 1973-1974 Dr. Bordelon was selected as the graduate teaching nominee to teach one academic year at the University of Dallas Rome Campus in Rome, Italy.
During his time as a teacher at Houston Baptist University Dr. Bordelon has given dozens of off-campus speeches on various facets of American political theory and practice. He has also attended five Liberty Fund colloquia.
Dr. Bordelon is a rabid fan of both college and professional football. He loves to travel, most especially to Italy. He is currently a member of, and has served as president of, Italy in America, an organization designed to promote various activities to be shared by Houstonians who love Italy and its heritage.
