Houston Baptist University organ professor and consultant, Dr. Rhonda Furr
Dr. Rhonda Furr has been a member of the HBU faculty since 1989.  Her primary academic fields are musicology and organ, although teaching responsibilities have also included church music.  She has received numerous awards including the Opal Goolsby Presidential Teaching Award.  Dr. Furr has served as organist of several area churches and is currently organist at the First Presbyterian Church of Houston.  She is the Convention Coordinator for the 2016 American Guild of Organist's National Convention and a past Dean of the Houston Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.  Furr worked closely with L├ętourneau’s artistic director, Andrew Forrest, and consultant John Gearhart in the design of the Smith Organ, mindful of its use for performance, worship and instruction.

“It is impossible for me to express what this remarkable gift from the Smiths means to HBU,” said Furr. “Performance and worship will be deeply enhanced for generations and countless students will be trained on this majestic instrument.”
