||The exhibition Roberta Harris: Recent Paintings and Works on Paper will open Oct. 25 in Houston Baptist University’s Contemporary Art Gallery. The exhibit features 23 paintings completed by the Houston-based artist in 2011 and 2012.
In her newest work, Harris extends her interests in pure color, patterns, and painterly paintings to create an expressive and joyous interplay of color and form. Throughout her career, whether working figuratively or abstractly, she has made use of patterns, checkerboards and a bold use of color. In these recent paintings, she also has made use of commercial paint company color samples, which she collages onto the surface of her paintings, producing an enticing play of pure color set against gestural paint application.
