||Spontaneous Memorial: A Commemorative Installation by Frank McEntire -- the inaugural exhibition for HBU’s brand new Contemporary Art Gallery -- will open Thursday, Aug. 30, with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m.
Spontaneous Memorial is the Houston native's tribute to the horrific event of 9/11. His installation was organized as a participatory exhibition in which he invited the exhibition viewers to record their thoughts about the tragic event in a ledger as well as on 3,000 tags, one tag for each victim at ground zero and the Pentagon.
Additionally, McEntire has incorporated photographs of the victims, snippets of news reports from The New York Times, and found objects in his commemorative installation. First exhibited in 2004 at Utah Valley University, this exhibition was shown yearly at seven more venues in Utah and Idaho. The present installation at HBU is the final, post-participatory exhibit of the assemblage installation.
Spontaneous Memorial will remain on view until Oct. 18. The Contemporary Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
