Position Summary:

The individual in this position will work closely with the Dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, the Chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, the Director of Post Baccalaureate Certification program, the Director of Graduate Programs for education and the University Testing Center. Responsibilities include coordination of the certification process for all routes within the Educator Preparation Program (EPP) and accountability for internal, state, and federal reporting (including ASEP, Title II & TEA).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Directs processes, and the standardization of such process, related to educator certification, including qualifying exams, approval to test, TExES exams, probationary certificates, standard certificates, and candidate transfers.
  • Interviews, supervises, and directs training of university supervisors and mentors for field placements, clinical teaching and one-year internships.
  • Serves as the university educator certification officer and liaison to State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) and Texas Education Agency (TEA) to ensure program compliance regarding certification and accountability issues.
  • Verifies requirements for standard certification have been met and recommends candidates for Texas educator credentials to SBEC
  • Serves as the field coordinator for field experiences, clinical teaching and internships.
  • Directs the updating of educator certification and clinical teaching webpages (Center for the Preparation of Professional Educators) and HBU webpages related to certification and assessment within the COEBS to ensure timely content related to the program 
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with the education community, including public and private school administration, teacher advisory council members, classroom teachers, mentor teachers, other institutions with EPPs, and SBEC/TEA personnel 
  • Maintains membership and involvement in the Texas Association of Certification Officers (TACO), Texas Directors of Field Experiences (TDFE), Texas Coordinators for Teacher Certification Testing (TCTCTP), and Texas Association of Alternative Certification.
  • Directs, audits and approves applications to the Teacher Education Program
  • Directs the strategic planning and management of School of Education data, using appropriate technology, to produce accurate and timely reports that support school and university goals 
  • Assists the Dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences in preparation for TEA accreditation site visits, as well as assisting in facilitation during the TEA site visit 
  • Performs additional program tasks, as requested by the dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences


Qualifications include a Master in Education degree or higher and a valid Texas teaching certificate. Some experience in certification, federal reporting, and teacher preparation is preferred, but not required. Experience using Tasksteam and Banner is preferred, but not required. Teaching experience in pre K-12 is recommended.
