Message to the Guild from the President of HBU

Dear Friends,
As Sue and I reflect on our sixth anniversary at HBU, The Guild is very special to us. Because of your ongoing support through all of the wonderful Guild scholarships, the University continues to build on its fifty-year tradition of preparing students for lives of Christian service in our community and beyond. And we are so very honored that The Guild has named scholarships for both of us. Christian higher education is our calling, and we can think of no greater tribute to our commitment and service than this investment in the lives of talented graduate students in HBU’s Schools of Education and Theology.
We are also very thankful for the outstanding work of The Guild Institute in Christian Family Studies. This thriving program continues to host special events that not only enrich the lives of our students but also serve as an outreach to members of our community as we continue to implement the sixth pillar in our Ten Pillars vision (Renew our Campus, Renew our Community).
We hope you share our excitement about the many other developments that reflect HBU’s vision goals. Some highlights of the past year include the launching of our Liberal Arts Core Curriculum; our acquisition of the Bradshaw Fitness Center; the graduation last May of our first Honors College class; the decision to play football in 2014 – and much more! All of these wonderful initiatives are designed to help us build a residential society of learning (Pillar 4) with an enriched student life experience.
Thank you for your friendship and your Christian commitment. Sue and I are truly grateful for all that you do to support the mission and the vision of the University.
Blessings,
Dr. Robert B. Sloan, Jr.
