Houston Baptist University (HBU) has announced that Lou Holtz will deliver the keynote address at its 2014 Spirit of Excellence Gala on November 11, 2014 at the Hilton Houston Post Oak hotel. Holtz currently serves as a college football studio analyst on ESPN and is recognized as one of the most successful college football coaches of all time. Though renowned for his success in the sports arena, Holtz will deliver a message that transcends athletics, focusing on cultivating values and relationships that empower people and organizations to excel.
During the event, the Spirit of Excellence Award will be presented to Sharon and William Morris, Linda Davis and Bruce Williams, and The Cullen Trust for Higher Education. The Spirit of Excellence Award – the highest tribute given by HBU – is awarded to those who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to promoting excellence in their personal lives and throughout the community. In addition, Dr. Archie and Linda Dunham will receive the President’s Lifetime Award in recognition of the major role they have played in supporting the mission and goals of the University.
The Gala, hosted by Honorary Co-Chairs Janice and Robert McNair and Chairs Dr. Diane and Stanley Williams, will provide scholarship funds for students pursuing careers in the arts, healthcare, business, education, and more at HBU.
